Service Corporation International (SCI) Corporate - Manager, Financial Reporting in Houston, Texas
Overview & Responsibilities:
Oversees and supports the preparation of SEC filings, including the 10-Qs and 10-K. Manages the General Ledger and supports Oracle monthly/quarterly/annual close process. Coordinates testing of ERP for patches and upgrades. Performs review function over journal entries and reconciliations. Coordinates/performs/reviews various SOX controls. Supervises and coordinates the activities of Financial Reporting Accountants both onshore and offshore.
Evaluate need for new or changed controls and/or procedures; make recommendations for such changes to management as necessary
Ensure that transactions are properly supported and classified in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
Oversee reconciliation of various Balance Sheet accounts
Review analysis of inter-company relationships and transactions
Coordinate timing and documentation deliverables with external auditors
Assist in research of accounting issues related to complex or non-standard transactions
Provide support on Sarbanes-Oxley issues
Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual close process and continuously assess for improvement
Maintenance of Oracle Hierarchies and Chart of Accounts
Manages tactical execution, function and sub-function operational strategy including processes, technology, innovations, change management, metrics and scorecards.
Oversee quarterly testing cycles for patches and upgrades to Oracle cloud environment including regression testing, evaluation of new functionality that is relevant to SCI, supporting decisions not to test, supporting emergency fixes and working closely with the internal Oracle Support team to troubleshoot and solve problems.
Continuous pursuit to simplify the environment (e.g., reduction of reports, simplification of processes).
Oversee the preparation and review of consolidated and comparable financial statements and related footnote disclosures for the Form 10-Q, 10-K, earnings release and other various SEC filings
Oversee preparation and distribution of internal management package and board materials
Review information and schedules provided by various departments
Provide support to develop, draft and distribute current accounting policies
Provide supervisory support to team of professional accountants
Assist with special projects as necessary
Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of a work team; sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities; decisions are guided by policies, procedures; receives guidance and oversight from Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- CPA preferred
Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of public accounting or financial reporting experience in addition to 2 years of experiences in a lead or supervisory role.
Experience with Oracle Cloud, Oracle EBS, SAP Cloud, or other large ERPs is required.
