Overview & Responsibilities:

We currently have a part time opening for a Funeral Services Assistant at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service in Turlock, CA. This position interacts directly with client families during their time of need and is responsible for creating and maintaining a premier level of client family satisfaction. The Funeral Attendant will set-up and assist with viewings, funeral services, memorial services, etc.

Customer Service

  • Performs a variety of tasks during funerals and visitations to assist funeral directorsand ensures that services run smoothly as planned

  • Maintains a friendly attitude while offering assistance and guidance to all persons entering the location

  • Acts on calls from external customers, including other cemeteries and mortuaries, to provide product and service selections, to include disposition of remains, contracts, and payments

  • Respects families by maintaining a code of confidence, privacy, and professionalism

  • Demonstrates a caring attitude when problems arise while calmly and efficiently bringing the situation to the attention of a staff member who can provide resolution

Funerals

  • Assists in the movement of the casketed deceased and other related paraphernalia in and out of the visitation area, funeral home, church, or other place of service

  • Offers assistance to mourners as they enter or exit limousines

  • Assists in forming the funeral procession in its proper order while attending and directing traffic on funeral home and/or church parking lots

  • Cleans and drives funeral vehicles in funeral processions

Driving and Removals

  • Performs removals of deceased from hospital, nursing home, or residence to transport to Personal Care Center, or funeral home.

  • May perform removals from morgues, prep rooms, or embalming facilities as well

  • Inspects, stocks, and cleans vehicles before departing

  • Ensures all SCI policies and procedures are carried out for each removal and transfer

  • Other driving services as needed by location

Clerical Responsibilities

  • Performs day to day clerical duties as required which may include:

  • Receiving and / or processes payments and/or contracts

  • Preparing and processing Veteran’s Paperwork

  • Acts on calls from client families, external customers, other cemeteries, and mortuaries

  • Composes, edits, and provides obituaries to newspapers and MeM

  • Assists with MEM preparation and service materials, including photo and/or video editing

  • May maintain location website to include accuracy of obituaries, service information, etc.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Applicants must have a flexible schedule, professional appearance, good attitude, and be a team player. The candidate must share in the idea of growing market and maintaining a premier level of customer satisfaction.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a customer-focused, fast-paced, professional environment.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Current CA driver license and good driving record

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Professional appearance required

  • Customer service experience is required

  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint and Adobe

  • Must have advanced internet, and word processing skills

  • Working knowledge of office equipment

  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Professional communication skills both orally and in writing

  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately take messages and information

  • Problem solving skills

  • Ability to multi task and set priorities

  • Must be able to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Must be able to work on a rotating on call schedule, including evenings and weekends

  • Ability to lift 75lbs+ Bilingual in English and Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
