Creates customized memorial services that celebrate the principal events and unique character of a person’s life.


55% Family Memorial & Life Celebration Event Planning

  • Discusses and influences memorial & life celebration events with Families to promote available options and determine budget, regardless whether event is held on-site or off-site. Collaborates with Family Contact on event date, time, venue, catering, MeM, printed remembrance or schedules, and related details. Coordinates with and statuses funeral arranger/director on event and significant revisions.

  • Contacts third-party event providers to schedule event, discuss event, review arrangements, and order equipment including but not limited to canopies, tables, chairs, stages, electronic equipment, or portable toilets.

  • Ensures events are on-time, smoothly executed, and within budget. Quietly and effectively resolves event issues. Oversees and manages all preparation, set-up and clean-up for events.

25% Program Administration

  • Identifies catering partners and other vendors and obtains multiple competitive bids for services, (e.g. caterers, equipment rental companies, equipment sales companies). Work with corporate office to establish necessary documents for partnership, billing, etc. Develop menu offerings and customization processes.

  • Monitors event contracts against spend data to ensure proper profit margin and recommending pricing changes to location manager.

  • Supports funeral arranger/director team by developing and maintaining catering product sales/marketing tools, order notification process, and training

  • Develops standard operating procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of areas of responsibility

  • Develops and conducts training for service directors in handling catered and other hosted events.

20% Market & Special Event Planning

  • Assists with planning Market on-site or off-site Events such as Holiday Parties and Picnics. Collaborates with Leadership to understand event goals and budget. Contributes ideas for themes, venues, catering, promotional items, pricing, rental items, and similar.

  • As member of special event planning teams, recommends event enhancements and executes assigned responsibilities. Special Events may include Memorial Day Services, All Saints Day, Summer Event Series (Movie in the Park, Concert in the Park, 5K), Candlelight Service, Our Lady of Fatima Celebration, Semi-Annual Employee Meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications


  • Associates Degree in hospitality or related discipline. Two (2) years directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree


  • At least three (3) years hospitality or event planning work experience including catering management involving customer service as well as sourcing and contract negotiations in food and venue services

  • funeral home and/or cemetery events a plus

  • Creative, naturally positive and contagious attitude

  • Excellent problem solving skills & critical thinking skills

  • Basic computer, internet, Microsoft Office skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to clearly and professionally communicate with internal and external customers at all levels

  • Ability to manage time wisely, work independently and set priorities

  • Basic understanding of financial functions such as pricing, margin, and cost of goods sold

  • Basic marketing knowledge

  • Effective negotiation skills

Work Environment

  • Standard business dress is required

  • Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions

Physical Demands

  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, computer, phone, calculators and other office functions

  • Lifting up to 75 pounds, incudes things such as caskets, equipment such as tables, chairs, flower displays and promotional materials

  • Standing and walking for long periods, up to 6 hours

  • Sitting for extended periods, up to 6 hours

Work Hours

This position requires ability to work a flexible schedule on weekdays and weekends as well as outside of normal business office hours.
